Fountain Renovation – London

Client Brief

Since our first instruction from Anglo American plc in 2004, Abco has carried out many and varied works for this client. Anglo American has its Group Headquarters in Carlton House Terrace, Central London. Abco has completed cleaning and maintenance tasks at this site both internally and externally including window cleaning, jet washing and atrium steel rust treatment works.

Featured here is our refurbishment of the atrium water fountain.

Scope of Works

  • Rig safe rope access from the steel work of the atrium roof to reach the fountain
  • Research and test appropriate and effective cleaning materials and application method
  • Develop successful cleaning regime of planned cyclical visits

Overview

The clients HQ building features a central atrium of glass and steel surrounded by 8 floors of office space with glass walled lifts. Rising from the floor of the atrium is an imposing 5 story chrome faced water fountain. The hard water of the London basin causes a build up of lime scale on the surface of the fountain over time. Abco was first tasked with accessing this difficult to reach location and investigating the extent of the cleaning requirements needed to bring the stainless steel surface of the fountain back to a clean and ‘shiny’ feature.  We then use a specialist treatment we have developed with the clients approval to coat all of the surfaces before returning by rope access to clean off and polish the steel.
